On Wednesday, the US Federal Commerce Fee (FTC) sought a court docket order to dam Fb dad or mum Meta Platforms from buying digital actuality (VR) agency Inside Limitless.
The FTC filed a request in a federal court docket in San Francisco for a brief restraining order and a preliminary injunction towards the tech large, calling it a “international know-how behemoth.”
The FTC famous Meta’s possession of main apps resembling Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger and claimed its “marketing campaign to overcome VR” began in 2014 following its acquisition of VR headset agency Oculus.
The FTC argued that Fb’s acquisition of Inside would create a “monopoly” available in the market for VR-dedicated health apps. Inside already has a preferred health app referred to as “Supernatural”.
Fb struck a deal to accumulate Inside in October 2021 for an undisclosed quantity.
